Life Hacks to Help You Make The Most of Your Weekend
Updated: Jan 21, 2022

Running a business is not easy. In the beginning, it’s a lot of late nights and constant “I promise, I’m hopping off this call in just a few minutes”!
And that’s nothing to feel guilty for! Nothing can truly prepare you for the ebbs and flows of running your own business or the pressures that may come with it. But it's for exactly this reason that prioritizing your downtime is essential!
Afterall, what is downtime worth if it isn't truly downtime? If you’re still checking your laptop/phone or catching up on chores or just being bogged down with more things to worry about, you’re not giving yourself the chance to enjoy the life you’re building.
If this sounds like you, and you’re convinced that you don't have downtime to prioritize, then let’s challenge that by starting with the downtime you’re “socially” given: the weekend! Socially, this is supposed to be the time when you’re not working. The time when you’re meant to slow down and enjoy the little things, right?
So let's start here and iron out how you can make the most of your weekends and truly start to enjoy some downtime!
Tackle Chores During The Week
Just like you likely do for your business, start prioritizing and maybe even batching out chores throughout the week so that they don't end up in a lump pile on your to-do list come Sunday. Make sure the dishes are done and the floors are swept every night, laundry every wednesday and maybe you do some dusting every Thursday. Whatever it is that sneaks up on you when the weekend rolls around, start implementing it into your week so that you can move with confidence that things are taken care of!
Make The Most Of Friday Nights
It’s Friday night, your clients/customers already have the understanding that you’re more than likely not going to respond to emails after 5pm so take advantage of that! Sign off at 5pm (set an away message if you have to) and make the most of your Friday night by preparing for your indulgent weekend!
Put on some music and attack the last of the chores you haven’t gotten to yet or still spilled over (whether this is laundry or cleaning the kitchen or changing the sheets...do it now)! This will save you from having to spend your weekend time on things you feel like you need to do but also makes you feel like you’ve wasted a day.
After that, hop in the car and head on over to the grocery store! Do your weekly grocery shopping now when everyone is out doing all the other things!
Cross off as much as you can on Friday night so that you can kick your legs up knowing you have nothing pressing to do for the rest of the weekend.
Turn Off Your Phone
Your phone is just a rabbit hole of emotions that you don’t want to be eating into during your weekend! While we know shutting it off for the entire weekend may give you a heart attack, consider shutting it off for at least an hour a day so you’re not getting consumed by what you should do and what you haven't done but rather what you have done and what you can enjoy right now!
Take the hour break to read a book, catch up on a show or even catch some well earned rest. By turning off your phone for a bit, you can make the most of your weekend by nourishing yourself and your soulful needs!
Plan Something Fun
Last thing on the list is to plan something fun! When we have something to look forward to, we put more energy into everything we do. If you make plans on a Saturday, you might be more inclined to make sure you get all your work done by Friday! And as a bonus you’ll also start prioritizing and looking forward to your weekends a bit more if you know you have a special reason to let your hair down!
As a business owner, what are some ways you set yourself up to make the most of your weekend?
